18-year-old and 18th World Chess Champion.

Youngest world chess champion ever

D. Gukesh just made history by becoming the youngest world chess champ at 18! He took down Ding Liren from China with a score of 7.5 to 6.5. Pretty wild, right?

Visions unveiled - The power of Manifestation

Flashback to when Gukesh was just 10, he told Mr. Sagar Shah from ChessBase India that his dream was to be the youngest world champ. And boom, he did it! Before him, Garry Kasparov held the record, snagging the title at 22.

Through sacrifice to triumph

Gukesh's journey was anything but ordinary. His parents decided he should focus solely on chess, so he stopped formal schooling after 4th grade. His dad, Dr. Rajanikant, an ENT surgeon, put his career on hold to support Gukesh's dream. He manages everything for Gukesh except the chess part. Gukesh first made waves when he became the National Chess Champ for the Under-11s. And get this, he learned chess the old-school way—no fancy chess engines, just books, teacher tips, and his gut instincts.

From a single seed, forest grows

Viswanathan Anand, a 5-time world chess champ and the first from India, really paved the way. Thanks to him, chess is booming in India, with 5 Indians in the top 20 worldwide.

Gukesh is studying chess at Vishy Sir’s academy (WACA) and is also sponsored by it.

Whenever I see Vishy Anand with these young talents, it’s like seeing a mentor with his protégés.

What’s Next for Indian Chess?

India's been on a roll, winning gold medals in both men and women sections at the 45th chess Olympiad for the first time. We've got some top players like Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa R, Vidit Gujarathi, Vaishali R, Harika, Koneru Hampi, Divya Deshmukh, and more. Who knows, maybe the next world chess championship will be an all-Indian showdown in the men and women section. Fingers crossed!

Oh, and about the world championship match: It's basically a face-off between two players with 14 classical chess games. If they tie, they move on to rapid games and keep going with shorter time controls until someone wins.
