Fuck Streaming

Streaming can tie a boulder to itself and jump into the Atlantic.

Streaming platforms made music available - and what did Napster / Limewire / DC++ do?

Napster was villified - it stole from artists. And what does Spotify / Tidal / Deezer et al do exactly?

At least DC++ never told me that a certain album was not available in my country. Or that the sampling rate would change mid listen.

Or Ads. Dear satan help me - an ad cutting across one of my favorite songs will drive me to murder. I am not being figurative.

I am not a casual music listener - bands that I am into, I will go and watch live and buy merch.

Even at home, listening to an album all the way through is a ritual, a habit.

For the most part, these are not big artists - other than the usual notable exceptions.

These bands cannot survive on streaming, regardless of how good they are.

I buy CD’s, download the music from Bandcamp or other websites - this gives me ownership of the music that I have paid for.

Not to mention higher sampling rates, lossless music formats et al.

And I get to checkout the mind bending artwork that some of these bands put on these albums - try that on Tidal or Deezer.

Not having access to 2 trillion pieces of music is not a problem for me - I carry my entire collection on my phone and refuse to allow internet access become an obstacle to music listening.

For the money I could spend on streaming subscription, I can buy and own a whole lot of good music. And this is precisely what I do.
