Luck by chance

We don’t acknowledge luck often enough.

I was lucky to be born to parents that I did, in the circumstances that I did - gave me a fighting chance.

Evolution granted me just enough gifts to be able to make it.

Lucky to have found folks around me who more often helped than hindered.

But even in things like music, luck has played a massive part.

I was lucky to find artists that formed my musical vocabulary - Metallica, AR Rahman, Indian Ocean, Carlos Santana, Opeth.

Whether it was internet piracy, seniors or peers at school and college or just sheer curiosity.

The fact that these artists were experimental and open minded and original was made normal for me through them.

Their artistic output was for entity of one - themselves. The fact that it found currency in the zeitgeist is a bonus.

Not to say I do not like any genre specific music - I absolutely do.

But when it gets stale, there is always a door open - some artist that is doing something weird, wonderful. Maybe even absurd.

Here is to never getting tired of finding new frontiers.
