Paws, Whiskers, Feathers and Wonders - Stories of Hope for Little Hearts - Book Review

Written by eight writers “Paws, Whiskers, Feathers and Wonders - Stories of Hope for Little Hearts” is an anthology. It’s a collection of literary works. In this case, it brings together short stories by different authors, each offering its own wisdom.

Varied life philosophies and lessons are compiled together in this book - through vivid stories .

Friendship. Kindness. How it can help someone overcome fears, how a gentle act can turn anyone into a playful, joyful soul. Another beautiful message comes from a story that reminds us how each of us is unique in our own skin. Made to look and be exactly who we are - there is no point comparing ourselves with others; each one carries their own qualities and features. Another favorite message shared is - Joy is transferable, and by expressing it, we spread happiness to everyone around us!

As the name of the book suggests, the book is filled with stories of animals - paws, whiskers, feathers, and delightful personalities. Most of the stories are fictional (of course, animals don’t talk!), but the takeaways are very real. They are not just lessons for the characters; they apply to us humans too.

One of my favorite stories is “The Dark Monster” by Vidya Nesarikar.
It follows a young boy and his mother, and the shadows he fears. The mother helps him understand what these shadows really are and how they change. This is a relatable parent–child moment, something almost every child asks, and every parent explains. It’s a short story with a sweet learning.

Another favorite is “The Battle Over Breakfast” by Shraddha Nigavekar.
It brilliantly conveys the idea that you have got brains in your head and feet in your shoes, so you can steer yourself in any direction you choose. Speak your mind. Question. Don’t accept everything at face value. It’s a powerful message and one I wholeheartedly agree with!

I will not label it strictly as a ‘children’s book’. I will call it a read for - young readers, storytellers and even parents. We all need a reminder about all these lessons every now and then.

Alright then, do share your feedback if you already read this one. Until next time, keep the coffee brewing and the pages turning! 📖 ☕️ 🖊
