TSP Player Profile: Ronaldo Fernandes

Ronaldo's journey in football is nothing less than a Bollywood script. His story is a wonderful example of power of legacy, passion, and perseverance. Born into a family where football runs deep, Ronaldo's connection to the sport is almost genetic (his blood group must be Football +ve). His grandfather, a revered figure in the Sandoz Colony, not only worked at Sandoz but also made a name for himself by winning the MDFA twice in the mid-1960s. This legacy was furthered by Ronaldo's father, who founded and played for Lakers F.C., a team that competed in the 1st Division of the MDFA. The family's footballing prowess is evident, with Ronaldo's Dad still being a sought-after goalkeeper at the age of 65 (Some of us have seen Uncle in action in Leno’s 5v5 tournament, in 35+ category)

Ronaldo's versatility on the field is remarkable. Whether deployed in defense or as a winger, his agility and speed make him appear a decade younger than his actual age. This adaptability and skill did not go unnoticed, as Haji Bhai, a seasoned veteran (Haji Bhai is 52+ and ex Maharashtra Player) who had seen Ronaldo's father in action, strongly recommended him for the TSP squad. It was clear from the outset that Ronaldo was destined to carry on his family's footballing legacy.

Despite the romantic allure of playing football, Ronaldo is pragmatic about the financial realities of the sport, at least in today’s times. He balances his passion for football with a professional career as an Associate Manager in CRM at Bewakoof.com, having completed a Bachelor's in Mass Media. This dual focus ensures that he can pursue his love for the game while maintaining financial stability.

Ronaldo's dedication to football is unwavering. He has captained the Second Division Lakers FC and played at the Super Division level in the MDFA. His approach to the game is holistic, emphasizing hydration, rest, and a motivational playlist to prepare mentally and physically for matches. His greatest strength lies in his resilience and refusal to give up until the final whistle.

Team dynamics are crucial to Ronaldo, who contributes positively to team morale by being supportive and encouraging. One of his most memorable moments was a dramatic comeback from a 5-0 deficit to a 5-5 draw, showcasing his team's tenacity and spirit. It was unfortunate that they conceded a last minute goal to finish 5-6 at FT. But what a memorable watch it was for him.

If that doesn’t hurt enough, Ronaldo still remembers the open goal chance he missed which took his team out of the Reliance League.
