TSP Player Profile: Yash Deshpande (Capt America of TSP)

Yash Deshpande, who should be known as the "Captain America of TSP," is a remarkable figure in the world of sports and beyond. His journey is not just about the accolades and titles he has earned, but also about the profound impact he has on those around him. As a national-level swimming champion and the captain of the Division 2 team for TSP, Yash exemplifies leadership and dedication both on and off the field.

A proud alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Yash carries the values of discipline and perseverance into every aspect of his life. His role as a central defensive midfielder (CDM) is not just about commanding the midfield; it's about orchestrating the entire team, guiding defenders and strikers alike with precision and insight. His presence on the field is akin to the rallying cry of "Avengers Assemble," inspiring his teammates and giving spectators goosebumps with his strategic plays and unwavering determination.

Yash's life is a delicate balance of responsibilities. In his late 20s, he juggles the demands of aging parents, a new marriage, and a career in the chemical industry. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to his passion for football. There have been times when he had to step back from the game, but his dedication never wavered. In a testament to his discipline, Yash shed 12-15 kilograms in just a few months to regain his match fitness, a feat that requires an elite level of commitment to diet, exercise, and practice. Both brother Yash and Jay, practice “skipping’ with KD and it shows in all three of them.

And I know this article is on Yash and not his parents, but I wouldnt get a better platform than this to highlight how cool Deshpande Uncle Aunty are. Uncle might be one of the coolest and favorite senior citizen at Amara. Though retired, I strongly feel he is one of the most busy person in our township. Has special time with his gang, they have their random sessions on some or the other thing, and Uncle takes time out to come and watch his boys play. They are 25+ and still you can see how much he enjoys seeing them play. As if they are 8-10 year olds running around with the football. Aunty has retired as teacher from Kendriya Vidyala, and still is as graceful and warm as usually our KV teachers are. I guess that part of their personality never switches off. I have not studied in her class, neither I have studied in her KV, but just the fact that I am a KV kid, I could see the pride in her eyes saying “yeh humara ladka hai” . And she reminds me of all the lovely teachers I have had during my school days. Equally lovely and supportive is Yash’s wife, Neha. She too is a teacher. Usually in a couple one is talkative and the other one listens. In their case, they both seem to be good listeners. At least in public :)

One aspect of Yash’s personality which might not be very evident is that he is a very very emotional guy. Thought he might keep it to himself, but he goes through his fair share of ups and downs of feelings when he is playing. But this is something I wish our young members and even others learn from him, he is not someone who hides or shoves it in some corner and moves on. He has a great ability to channelize that energy and take it out creatively during his game in a positive way.

His emotions are visible too. Whether he is happy with you or disappointed that you are not hearing him out which is costing team the possession. But once the game is over, he’ll tell you one final time what to work on, and then let go. Once he takes his boots off, he is back to that prolific sales guy who is making big things happen for the chemical company he works for, and a wonderful family guy who is pivotal to keep the Deshpande joint family happy and together.

In TSP, Yash is more than just a player; he is the heart and soul of the team. His leadership in a diverse squad, ranging from 17 to 45-year-olds, is unparalleled. He bridges the gap between generations, creating a cohesive unit that thrives on mutual respect and camaraderie. Yash looks up to senior players while inspiring the younger ones, fostering a sense of family within the club.

Though the future may hold changes, the bonds formed through TSP will endure. Yash Deshpande's legacy is not just in the games won or the titles earned, but in the friendships and community he has helped build. TSP is fortunate to have him as a captain, and his influence will be felt long after the final whistle blows.
