Why I read

I am very average. In pretty much every respect.

As the DMV guy said when I finished my driving test, “You’re not great. You are OK at best”.

Like most people, I am sucker for good plotlines. And characters.

Difficulty empathizing with a stranger coming from a vastly different context is not a shortcoming I wish to ignore.

A reliable way to improve aspects of yourself is an added bonus.

Unless time travel is invented in this lifetime, I will never see the Romans getting beaten by the Germanic tribes or the pyramids of Egypt being erected.

But with a good book, I can get pretty goddam close.

Excellence

If there is one word that describe us humans, that word is mediocre. Most of us are mediocre at almost everything we do. I am a mediocre cook, employee, student, cricketer, friend, husband, and father. By now, you must have noticed, my writing is mediocre too.

Embracing Life Beyond the Highlights

Time has started to fly lately and I do not mean it in the cliched, overused way. I really feel that because of the constant overconsumption of information, in terms of reels, commercials, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, TV, gripping series, and so on. I remember our school period ...

Better: a Surgeon’s Notes on Performance

“What does it take to be good at something in which failure is so easy, so effortless?” This is the main question that ‘Better: a Surgeon’s Notes on Performance by Atul Gawande’ attempts to answer. It lays down three core requirements for success in medicine, and by extension in...
