Crash Part 2
The traffic en route to the first shoe store wasn’t too bad, but figuring out the parking was.
It was energy sapping, mood draining.
But it was easily overcome - footwear was purchased and moods were generally fine.
Onwards to the next shoe store. And now its past noon, the general population had risen from its weekend slumber and decided to congregate on the roads in their cars.
And so they both sat - in mile after mile of slow moving traffic jams.
The sun shining through the windshield, the car heater cozying it up. The woolen clothing was very comfortable.
And the first big yawn. First sign of trouble.
Like the high altitude climber, oxygen tanks suddenly empty. All willingness drains out.
Eyelids barely staying open. Close call with a lane change.
A sip of water to fresh things up - but just about. The bottle is almost empty.
Almost ran a red light.
Somehow, they manage to get to the destination. And he takes his time getting stock of the situation.
He sits down trying to catch his breath, at the same time trying to stay awake.
Convincing himself that he isn’t tired, its just the weather.
As the seconds slip by, the weight on the eyelids grows.
His head slumps. Energy at zero.
An unseen demon had sucked out his soul.
