My plan with thinkdeli
I started thinkdeli almost exactly a year ago. I wanted to build an app that would let me start writing in a second, and would work offline. With these modest goals, I started building.
Along the way I stumbled upon an excellent community of writers, readers, photographers, office goers, who liked thinkdeli the way I did. They used it and gave me suggestions to take thinkdeli forward. And I took them seriously.
I was tempted a few times to try to monetize thinkdeli. But I was never able to figure out the what, why, and when of this problem statement. So I stopped thinking about it. And life became easier. I want to run thinkdeli for a 100 years. I realize that one day, I will need to figure out monetization to make thinkdeli sustainable. But that day will come. I am ready to wait.
I have a lot of cool things planned for the near future. I want to enable custom domains, and build better AI features, better habit features. I want to get a wider reach for thinkdeli writers, and build tools that will help them build and nurture their audience. There is a lot of basic stuff that needs to be built too - better profile pages, ability to export notes, better emails, author newsletters, etc. I want thinkdeli to become the tool of choice for writers everywhere. I want to go deeper and explore cozyweb and digital garden concepts with thinkdeli. But I want to do all of this while keeping the core design and philosophy intact. Thinkdeli should be the fastest, lightest writing tool that helps you write more and write better.
I am super grateful for the community that is getting built. Some generous users and friends sponsored prizes, and gave me money for blue ticks (money that I haven’t yet used 😅). A friend offered to manage the entire social media and came up with the idea for contests. A lot of us are entusiastically participating in these contests and discovering new stuff about ourselves!
I hope you will stick around for the rest of this amazing journey that is just getting started. Also, bring your friends along for the ride, the more the merrier.
Here is to writing more and writing better!

Over the past year, while building thinkdeli, I have been surprised to learn this one thing about writing. Writing doesn’t happen. You have to make it happen.
