Off the Ball Day#6 - Drop the Failure
In the journey of football and life, failure is as inevitable as the sunrise and sunset. When you aim for something challenging, it's natural for things not to always go your way. The key lies in how you handle these setbacks. You have two choices:
dwell on the failure, wasting precious time and potentially missing out on current opportunities, or
quickly move past it, refocus, and give your 100% to the task at hand.

Time spent not giving your all is time wasted.
It's perplexing why society often teaches us to view failure negatively, as if it's a fatal flaw. In reality, failure is a natural part of the process, a stepping stone to success. Overthinking failures only hinders progress. The best approach is to acknowledge the setback, learn from it, and move on without self-judgment.
It's crucial to remember that one failure does not define you. Instead of wasting time judging yourself harshly, use the experience as a learning opportunity. Embrace the mindset that it's okay to fail. This perspective is not just beneficial in football but in all aspects of life. By accepting failure as a part of the journey, you free yourself from the fear of making mistakes and open up to growth and improvement.
you WILL
not be able to execute the pass you planned for
not see the player in better position to receive your pass
not cover the oppositions run which leads to a goal
not score every easy attempt you take to score
not outrun the opposition
But so what ? Neither does Ronaldo, Messi or whoever your favorite player is.
Its not about NOT failing, its about NOT giving up after failing. Continue to go on.
This can be seen as mental toughness too. But it has something to do with how highly we think of ourselves. We are allowed to fail. We are human.
In essence, dropping the failure means letting go of the fear and stigma associated with it. By doing so, you allow yourself to focus on the present, giving your best effort and paving the way for future success. Remember, it's not the failure itself but how you respond to it that truly matters.

So much to learn here. Fear of failure is perhaps the biggest reason that prevents one from trying something new.

Thanks Satya. and yes the fear of failure, may be originates from our school days. What we are failing at too matters :)
