TSP Player Profile: Shlok Awate
Shlok is a promising new addition to the TSP squad, having come to Amara shortly after the registration for Season 1. Unfortunately, due to timing, he couldn't be registered immediately, but his dedication to the team has been evident from the start. Despite the challenges of balancing college and exams, Shlok has consistently attended training sessions (whenever he can), demonstrating a commitment that is rare among young players.
At the age of 20/21, Shlok, like many young athletes, faces the challenge of juggling multiple priorities. However, he stands out for his sincerity and dedication, akin to a diligent student who applies what he learns in training. His commitment to routines, such as warming up before games and stretching after intense sessions, sets him apart. Even when others have left, Shlok ensures he completes his planned routine, a discipline that is beginning to reflect in his gameplay.
Initially starting from the bench, Shlok has gradually increased his playtime as the season progresses. His growing confidence and the trust placed in him by the coach are evident in his performances. Shlok has proven to be particularly effective in physically demanding matches, contributing both defensively and offensively. Shlok, just like Shreyansh, is helping start the defensive move when as winger he puts pressure on CAMs and not let them make a good pass. And his ability to pressure opponents and facilitate attacking plays by delivering precise crosses showcases his growing impact on the field.
Looking ahead, Shlok's potential is immense. As he continues to develop, both physically and mentally, the team anticipates an even stronger, faster, and more skilled player, Shlok 2.0, in the coming seasons. His growth is not limited to the field; the hope is that he will excel in all areas of life.
I wish to use this article not only as a profile of Shlok but also as a message to all young players in the squad and the broader football community. Here are some key lessons and skills that Shlok, and indeed all young athletes, should embrace:
Good Communication: Very important to convey your points in a good way and articulate what exactly you want from others, and understand what others expect from you. Its not a must. But as we grow in life, its the people with good communication skills that reach the CXO levels. Lot of us think “my work (or skill) will speak louder than words”. Its true to some extend, but its the communication that helps to align the people around you.
Channelizing Energy: Youth is often seen as high energy, but its actually just entropy. Mindlessness and following the impulses is so common that it doesn’t even feel wrong. Rather, its appreciated by our peer circle too. However it is those who can channelize the energy for productive goals create value from it. Rather than just entertaining self and chasing the dopamine generating activities. Most of us learn the importance of focus much later in life. But sooner you do, the better it is..
Self-Belief: It's easy to fall into a victim mentality, but believing in oneself is crucial. Trust that opportunities will come with time and perseverance.
Embracing Failure: Failing is part of the journey when you are chasing ambitious goals. No one, almost no one gets it right the first time. If you do , I think that you were aiming for much lessor than what you have potential for. The journey makes you better, stronger and eventually worthy of what you are aiming for, and then you move on to the next goal.
Continuous Learning: Learning doesn't stop after school. Actually it is okay to live life in auto-pilot mode , but that means you ll be at the same level. You ll be gliding at the same height. To soar higher, you need to work harder, and keep working harder to maintain the top spot. Ronaldo or Messi or whoever your favorite player is, is not favorite because they had one unbelievable match 20 years ago. They have been delivering week in week out. Which is only possible when you work for it.
