Soup at Painting

Museums have been a sanctuary for me for a long time. I cannot overstate their importance in my adult life.

This entity that is a welcoming space to explore art, heritage, history and anthropology - has been another piece of the puzzle to understanding what and why of “us”.

There have been multiple incidents of activists throwing soup at painting to bring attention to global warming and humanity’s conspicuous consumption of earths resources

Predictably, I cursed and swore at the activists - why destroy our common heritage? Go do your protesting somewhere else.

These activists did not hurt anyone. They silently courted arrest. They accepted the consequences of their actions. And in doing so, they did make news, which was the whole point of the act.

Protesting something that we already know is going to destroy humankind on this planet.

How was this any different than Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt throwing non-lethal bombs in an assembly house to protest a bill?

The reward of the protest is much greater than what a bunch of paintings represent.

If we survive, we will create more and better art.

If not, we all lose.

Attacks on Pilgrims

Attacks on Indian cities of Reasi, Kathua, Doda at this point of time, I think, must be meant as clear provocation. They are goading us into hitting back, which in order to save our own image, I guess we will have to do. Not to be jingoistic, but we can’t allow the wholesale murd...

Beliefs, Validation and Kindness

I was at work. I was browsing a news website. A colleague walked in unannounced. He saw my screen and said “yaane aap congress wale ho” (So, this means you are a congress supporter!). His tone was almost accusatory. This was not the first time someone had classified me in this po...

Keep Pushing On

Cannot believe how quickly life changes colours. The last time I wrote, I wrote about the“Painting of Life” (In 2013 I think). The last 2 lines of that Poem were -
