Books of 2024 : Book 13
Picked this book on our recent visit to Blossoms. It is a love story. The review has a spoiler so don’t read further if you are planning to read the book. It starts really really well. It is a story of a young girl and boy living in Tehran. How they meet on their visit to a stationary store and how their love blossoms in the turbulent times of Iran. At this point I was half expecting it to be like A Thousand Splendid Suns which I had read almost a decade back. Not as enriching but may be little. But I was disappointed here.
Around halfway through the book, lovers split. The reason for splitting is too cliched and reminded me of our Saas-Bahu dramas. I almost thought of quitting and not reading further but read on to complete the book 😅. The book does pick up a little later.
I loved how the protagonist of the book is not shown as a helpless girl but someone who lives a fulfilling life even after the heartbreak in her teenage years. I also loved how the author has described Iranian food and dishes at various places in the book.
Overall I would recommend it if you are looking for a light read with little drama. It has lots of cliches like a Bollywood romance but does have a nice feeling to it.
