The edge of regret

Gaze into your abyss and tell me what you see.

A hint of release or a captive decree?

A faint flickering hope and a lurking despair,

Mindless self-destruction with a glimmer of repair.

Darkness creeps in at the edge of a flare,

A pull to remain. A push to prepare.

Binary choices in shades of grey,

Cursing fate but kneeling to pray.

Too much to think, with nothing to say,

Replaying ramblings at the end of each day.

Fear isn’t real. Only reality is.

Masks hiding wounds, concealing disease.

Hiding from help, too ashamed to be seen,

Embracing failure embedded in routine.

Mental wars you endlessly wage,

Leaping between islands of calm and rage.

Stewing in stagnation, inaction’s bell tolls,

Delayed dreams gaping, to swallow you whole.

How long will you stay, in stillness confined?

Regret lies waiting, harsh and unkind.

These shadows whisper, they beg you to belong,

But you knew that Andy was right all along.

Reluctant to change, afraid of even trying -

Get busy living or get busy dying.

Just a thought

I wish I had the power to say something and then take it back. No, I don’t regret hurting someone with my words. Rather, I want to live that conversation and see how it goes, move onto the next without having the baggage of the first.

Keep Pushing On

Cannot believe how quickly life changes colours. The last time I wrote, I wrote about the“Painting of Life” (In 2013 I think). The last 2 lines of that Poem were -

Yet again.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been telling myself that my spoken words do the job. But, the written word is what gets me to the stage of offering the spoken.
