Day 7 - wedding chronicles

Yesterday, attended a wedding after many many ages. Why I am not invited much would fill another post. The hall was big and the number of guests were huge. We were already late for the marriage happening at noon, owing to the morning traffic. Observing them all, it all seemed like a facade to me. Like a small budgeted film which flops in public, I found it similar to a wedding. The directors are the priests, the producers are the parents of both bride and groom, the relatives of both families being part of the production and filmmaking team, the guests are the audience who come just for the entertainment and food, while the photographers form the marketing and editing team. Does anyone bothers much about the script story and screenplay which forms the real core? Do both families ever brainstorm and discuss what’s really needed for the film, I mean marriage, to be successful?

There were discussions among the audience, not about the bride and groom though. It was an opportunity for them to meet the other relatives and refresh their waning memory of various branches of their family tree. I have a theory that Charles Darwin would have attended a similar wedding in his young age setting off his thinking on genes. Considering how they had more than 10 siblings in those era, it would have been interesting to note the similar trait like baldness and dental structure, boy vs girls ratio in the families, or the deaths and ailments. Sitting just behind her in the row of chairs, I saw a 80+ year old granny taking a selfie with her another octogenarian friend and posting in on WA group! Survival of the fittest indeed!

The moment varmala was done, almost all the guests got up slowly for their food. For the actual pheras, the hall had very few people left. The photographers were still clicking that and this leaving a bitter taste in my mind of the days events. More than renewing connections I consider the event as a short vacation for our family, only to end up with throat pain and ultimately taking the day off today!

Haha . Well written. Lately, I get goosebumps even by the thought of such weddings and get-togethers. Not sure, if it's just the age or choice 🤔 😅

Day 5 - Feast at the temple

A trip to native is never complete without having the festival lunch at temple. The sadya served is considered tasty and precious gift from the Creator and hence the seniors in the family make sure that we attend it atleast once or maybe more in a year.

Unequal Goodbyes

The rickshaw made him a little uncomfortable. During a similar journey, a few years ago, his rickshaw met with a terrible accident. He broke four ribs. The bones had healed. But the scars stayed. He could never sleep comfortably. His ribs hurt every night. But he had got used to ...

So Mini Things

Like countless other couples, my wife and I have embraced the modern way of showing love - sharing reels. We have shared countless reels. Most of them are forgotten right after. There are very few that are discussed later. Aiyyo Shraddha’s are the ones that are discussed and rewa...

It is Sunday. I woke up early today. I am not sure why. I think I had to go to the bathroom. Or had I set my body clock to go off before Sanika’s 7:30 AM dance class?

Who has it all?

\"I feel so proud to have received this award. I would not say I did not expect it, because I worked very hard for it. I want to thank my team for keeping up with my demands to work at odd hours to meet the deadlines and targets. Thanks to the organizers for recognizing our effor...

Day 13 - This n that

I am too immersed in book today to think or observe things to write about for the ongoing series. It’s about cooking, women and the misogynistic view of the country they staying in, and how it affects them deeply. It’s supposedly a thriller, but the repetitive cooking and descrip...

Wonderment

11 years ago, I recall my first day at Novartis' head office in Worli. It was my first experience in a corporate setting, my internship that was going to get me my first paycheck. It was thrilling and exciting, and I felt like the world was my playground. I remember having a new ...
