How to find new artists

A friend posed a question yesterday - how do you discover new venues or new artists?

There is a starting point - let’s say, in this case the beautiful Sanders Theater in Cambridge MA (image below).

Going backwards from that -

Sanders Theater —> Zakir Hussain —> Taj Mahal Tea ad —> Doordarshan.

Short tree. But it got longer and more fun when it came to some other artists.

Red Baraat —> Somerville Theater —> Rini Raghavan —> Berklee India Ensemble —> Berklee Meets Rahman —> Berklee College of Music —> Dream Theater —> Metallica.

After a point, memory just fails you because an artist like Metallica has been part of my DNA for as long as I can remember.

But this was a fun little activity. Will be doing this more with other artists and even places and things.

What do you not have enough of?

I live near the HAL airport in Bangalore. It is used for airforce test flights. Once in a while, some VIP planes will land here. The king and queen of England landed here last month when they were on a private visit to Bengaluru.

I was asked the below question in a survey run by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, to which I make at least 1 visit a year.
