Cats and dogs

Satya wrote this post - https://thinkdeli.com/post/notes-vs-blogs-666

After reading it, the first thought that came to mind was "Notes and blogs rhyme with metrics and logs." It's strange that these work-related terms popped into my head first, especially when "cats and dogs" seems like a more obvious rhyme. Perhaps because I no longer allow myself to entertain fleeting thoughts freely? Nowadays, it feels as though every thought must be justified by a specific task that summons it. But it shouldn't have to be this way.

Reflecting on this, I wondered: Do I still possess the ability to creatively rhyme "notes and blogs" with "cats and dogs"?

Can I still craft something playful and imaginative from such connections?

This is what the cat dragged out of me:

There are notes, there are blogs.

Are they like cats and dogs?

They don't rain, maybe they aren't so.

Where is this going? I don't know.

But who is to say, in these turbulent times?

Imaginary battles fought by screaming mimes.

Isn't it enough to just be?

Must you hustle for them to see?

Will they care, when you are gone?

A you-shaped-hole will erode in a yawn.

But you still write, for write you must.

Knowing too well, this all will go to dust.

If I wrote this piece 10 years ago,

I would work in a reference to Jon Snow.

You'd think I was cool, for I watched that show.

But I just saw the meme - that's all I know.

I see you still waiting, for a hook to this flow,

But all is on the surface, there's not much below.

Isn't the surface enough, must everything be deep?

Will a self referential thought differentiate me from the sheep?

No it won't, and I won't try,

Maybe I can't. That's why I lie.

This is where the two of us depart,

A rambling must end, for another one to start.

This too shall vanish, without a trace or sound,

A train of derailed thoughts, a mess of random rebounds.

Say your farewells to cats and dogs,

Go serve your machines, you faithful cogs.

Okay!

And I find it so fascinating, how these people will just say in a few words which would take me hour long conversations.

Reading Habit

My monkey brain is in overdrive when I am alone. I can’t read. I can’t write. I can’t watch an entire movie. I can’t code. Well this is all I can do when I can. There is not much else to me.

Write

Remember the last time you nailed a post and felt happy? Remember reading the poignant story that moved you to tears?Good writing is powerful. It enriches — the reader and the writer.

Thoughts on writing

Writing forces reflection. That is what makes it difficult. The monkey brain is happy jumping from one thought to another. Writing forces the brain to focus. It does so more than any other form of creation.

Day 9 - Writing tricks

This “NoBreakNovember” series by thinkdeli reminds me of another writing community I was part of, years earlier. We used to post everyday in April under “AprilBloggingChallenge”. I have attempted only once and that itself tired me out. I was out of ideas dang in the middle. Thoug...
